Our Peer Review Policy
The Boitekanelo: Journal of Public Health in Africa implements a double-blind review approach that conceals the identities of both authors and reviewers. The journal seeks to provide prompt editorial decisions, and manuscripts that do not fit its scope or editorial standards are screened out before peer review.
Reviewers must disclose conflicts of interest, respond promptly to invitations, complete evaluations within deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and notify editors of ethical concerns. They may also be asked to transfer reviews within the publisher’s journals when appropriate. Review reports should be objective, constructive, and aligned with recommendations while maintaining professional tone and confidentiality.
Authors are required to declare conflicts of interest and submit revisions within the allotted timeframe. After the review process, reviewers may reassess revised manuscripts and must continue to respect confidentiality.
Peer review of special issues
Special issues follow the same double-blind standards as regular submissions, with guest editors assisting in screening and coordination, while the editorial board retains final decision-making authority. Manuscripts written by guest editors undergo independent handling to avoid conflicts of interest, and their contributions are limited to no more than 25% of an issue to ensure balanced representation.
