Abstract

The linkage between environment and politics is a long-established one. Scholars, policymakers, analysts and other stakeholders have argued severally on this relationship. Existing and emerging environmental problems now require political solutions more than ever. The causal relationship between environment and politics and vice versa has grown such that the scientific and political communities have come to fundamental and unprecedented agreements as to the cause(s) of environmental problems.
Hence, there is a growing recognition of government as the consumer of scientific findings on the environment. This has led to the establishment of environmental governance from the global level right to local and municipal levels across the world. This is coupled with an ever-growing number of environmental movements and broadening the scope of environmental
advocacy and activism. Hence, environment-politics nexus represents one of the most complex realities of our modern world.
