PROPOSING IGBOZEALOTISM AS AN INDIGENOUS FRAMEWORK FOR ADVANCING SOCIO-POLITICAL PROGRESS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN AFRICAN POLITICAL LANDSCAPE
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper advances the concept of Igbozealotism as a viable indigenous framework for promoting socio-political development of the Igbo people in Nigeria. Through a conceptual analysis of Nke a anyi bu nke a anyi (Cultural Conscientiousness and Patriotism), Ọfọ (the principle of justice, truth, and legitimate authority), and Igwebuike (unity is strength) (three key principles in Igbo cosmology), the study establishes the relevance of indigenous traits in fostering regional economic progress and collective political progress in African context. Against a backdrop of Nigeria’s political space, where political success and economic development is often measured by political representation at the Nigerian federal level and the presence of physical infrastructure at the regional level, the afore-mentioned principles represent a strategic tool for fostering regional political-determination and sustained economic rebuild of Igbo people in Nigeria. Rather than being seen as purely symbolic construct, these principles can encourage collective agency and reconcile Igbo people's aspirations, for regional and sustainable economic development. The strategic application of the principles offers a viable model for harmonizing regional aspirations with effective participation in Nigeria's national political system.
